ألاlisten! قلsay لعزto ʿIzz (Glory) الدينal-Dīn (the Faith) لاmay … not زالcease to be جدهhis good fortune
عزيزاًmighty وأماand as for ضدهhis adversary فذليلthen abased
Listen, tell ʿIzz al-Dīn: may his fortune ever remain
Alas say to the mighty Ala ad-Din
Mighty, while his adversary is abased.
He is still mighty while his foe is weak
ولاand may … not زالcease to be منصورvictorious اللواءthe banner مظفراًtriumphant
يقيمhe straightens صغىthe tilt of الأيامthe days حينwhen تميلthey lean
And may he ever be triumphant, with a victorious banner,
And the triumphant banner is still victorious
Righting the tilt of the days whenever they lean.
It withstands the passing days as they tilt

A letter came to me from him; as for its lines,
A letter came to me from him, its lines
They are a garden; as for its fragrance, it is an east wind.
Are blessings, and its text acceptance
ولمand I did not أدرknow هلwhether بينbetween السطورthe lines شمائلnoble traits
بعثتyou sent بهاwith them أمor بينهنamong them شمولwine
I could not tell whether between the lines were noble traits
I know not if between the lines are features
That you had sent, or wine among them.
Sent by him, or if between them there is inclusion

For it has worn my longings thin, until they left me
For his passion has stirred my longing until he left me
Saying—and concealing this burning thirst is betrayal—
Saying while concealing the pain is torment
ترىdo you think تسعدwill gladden الأيامthe days بالجمعby bringing together بينناbetween us
وهلand is there ليfor me إلىto بردthe coolness of اللقاءmeeting سبيلa way
Do you think the days will gladden us by bringing us together?
Do you think the days will be happy in uniting us
And is there a way for me to the coolness of meeting?
And will I have a way to the coolness of the meeting
وإنand if تبخلis miserly الدنياthe world بتأليفin bringing together جمعناour company
فرأيthen the judgment of المقامthe august presence الناصريthe Nāṣirī جميلgracious
And if the world begrudges bringing us together,
And if the world is stingy in uniting us
Then the judgment of the Nāṣirī Presence is gracious.
The view of an-Nasiri resort is beautiful
