You are his right hand if a calamity arises
You are his right hand, that if calamities appear,
that all his other limbs guard against.
The rest of his body seeks your protection.

O Abu Fatak, my patron, I cry
whose sincere affection shows no concealment.
With sincerity and affection once hidden.

Yours alone, among all people, is the necklace of my praise;
For you, beyond all people, my ode of praise
so examine its pearls and the bond of my allegiance.
That distinguishes and honors the sublime.

Virtues have given me voice and taught me
Your virtues have moved my tongue
how to praise the heights of glory through them.
To tell how I extol the exalted ones,

And your generous hand and brow
both streaming with rainlike bounty and modesty,
Adorned with life and modesty.

my face said, 'You two have kept my water within me.'
My face says "you have sustained me."

Had I called for your munificence and valor
in a pressing matter, his bounty would answer my call.
In time of need, you would have answered my call.

I said to the one claiming to praise Shujaʿ:
I said to the one claiming to praise your valor,
'The sun's own radiance is its praise.'
"To praise the sun adds nothing to its radiance."

If we composed the stars in your honor, it would fall short
short of the praise he deserves.
Of what you deserve in acclamation.

And stringing the stars is little for a king
Too few are the stars to praise a king
who has surpassed in glory the stars of al-Jawza.
Who has surpassed the stars of Gemini in glory.

whose cure is hoped for by drinking medicine.
Hoping to gain health by drinking medicine.

Rather, you bestowed generosity on physicians
from you, until you flooded them with gifts.
Until you overwhelmed them with gifts.

So long enjoy great dominion, and trail
So the great king was delighted, and dragged
the hem of glory, health, and healing.
The train of might, health, and recovery.

And so was delighted the year of which you are most worthy
of happiness than anyone blessed with comfort.
To be felicitated with glad tidings.
