  1. أبني إن ذقت الردى

    فلقد أذقت أباك فقدك

    O my son, if you have tasted death,

    then you have indeed made your father taste the loss of you.

  2. ووحق عيشك لا حلا

    لأبيك مر العيش بعدك

    And, by your life, it has not grown sweet—

    for your father, the bitterness of life after you.
