It lagged for a while behind the duty owed you,
You delayed the due of your right a while,
while the flood of bounty from your hands never lags.
But the flood of your palm's bounty does not delay.

You bestowed favors: no face of petition turns away,
You obligated, so no place for requests,
nor does good fortune's shoulder turn aside.
And the shoulder of favor is not turned from the unworthy.

Your favors are beyond my counting,
Your hands, I cannot count their number,
while the verses of my praise for you can be counted and bounded.
While my verses in your praise can be counted and compiled.

their merit, unless it comes from you, goes unrecognized.
Which the worldly denied - your favor is not denied.

While from you, other hopes are cut off and shortened.

These rhymes are Sirius in their loftiness; only
Al-Qawafi - lofty in rank - though given the title 'poetry'
one who does not perceive calls them mere poetry.
By one unaware and who does not feel.

You mastered the proud conceits of their arrogance,
You ruled over the singing girls, though you are greater,
though they are haughty toward people other than you.
And over a people other than you, haughtier.

You graciously sowed for them the seed of honor,
You planted the seed of dignity, favoring it,
so they softened, after turning away and shunning.
So it bore fruit, though it used to turn away and refuse.

You filled the chaste minds that came
swaying in a robe of song and strutting.
Approaching in robes of verse, imaging and picturing.

وتنحل الباب الرجال وتمهر
She is led forth as a bride, but breasts are her chambers,
It woos, but shyness overcomes the hearts,
and men's minds are bestowed on her as gifts and dowry.
As it solves the door but men are confused.

You made gentle one fierce with sword

From it, if today were disclosed from you.

You alone are the full moon; look at its crescent,
But the full moon is none but you, so regard its crescent
its form a dagger at your hater's throat.
And its shape in the throat of your glittering dagger.
