لقدindeed غمرتنيoverwhelmed me منfrom نداهhis bounty مواهبgifts
لقد غمرتني من نداه مواهب
أضافتadded إلىto عزdignity الغنىwealth شرفhonor القدرrank
أضافت إلى عز الغنى شرف القدر
Indeed, gifts from his bounty overwhelmed me;
You have overwhelmed me with blessings from your benevolence
They added the honor of rank to the dignity of wealth.
Adding to the glory of wealth the honor of fate
قصدتI sought الجنابthe august presence الصالحيof al-Salih تفاؤلاًwith hopeful expectation
قصدت الجناب الصالحي تفاؤلاً
وقدand already فسدتhad worsened حاليmy condition فأصلحنيthen set me right دهريmy fate
وقد فسدت حالي فأصلحني دهري
I sought al-Salih's august presence with hopeful expectation;
I sought the virtuous ruler hopefully
My condition had worsened, but my fate set me right.
Though my state was corrupt, fate repaired me
ولمand did not يرضbe content ليfor me معروفهhis kindness دونwithout جاههhis influence
ولم يرض لي معروفه دون جاهه
فسيرso he dispatched كتباًletters كالكتائبlike battalions فيconcerning أمريmy affairs
فسير كتباً كالكتائب في أمري
Nor was his kindness to me content without his influence,
And his favors were not pleasing without his status
So he dispatched letters like battalions on my behalf.
So he turned books like battalions in my matter
كأنas though يديmy hand فيon جانبيthe two sides of عدنAden بهاby it
كأن يدي في جانبي عدن بها
يهزwere waved علىover الأيامthe days ألويةbanners النصرvictory
يهز على الأيام ألوية النصر
As though, on both sides of Aden, by my hand
As if my hand in its scabbard Eden with it
The banners of victory were waved over the days.
Shaking over the days the banners of victory
وماand not فارقنيleft me نعمةa blessing صالحيةfrom al-Salih
وما فارقني نعمة صالحية
كأنيas though I منfrom مصرEgypt رحلتI journeyed إلىto مصرEgypt
كأني من مصر رحلت إلى مصر
And no blessing from al-Salih deserted me,
No virtuous blessing has left me
As though I had journeyed from Egypt to Egypt.
As if from Egypt I traveled to Egypt
