Do not heed reproach, for reproach leads astray.
Heed not the blame, for blame is but misleading;
And drink, for drinking turns sorrows away.
Drink, for in drinking is the turning of sorrow.
فقدfor indeed مضىhas passed القيظsummer's heat واحتثتand were urged onward رواحلهits riding camels
فقد مضى القيظ واحتثت رواحله
وطابتand became delightful الراحthe wine لماwhen آلcame round أيلولSeptember
وطابت الراح لما آل أيلول
For summer's heat has passed, and its riding camels have been urged onward.
The summer heat has passed and fled its stages;
And the wine became delightful when September came round.
The winds blow soft when comes the month September.
وليسand there is no فيin الأرضthe earth نبتplant يشتكيcomplains of رمداًeye inflammation
وليس في الأرض نبت يشتكي رمداً
إلاexcept that وناظرهand its eye بالطلwith dew مكحولlined with kohl
إلا وناظره بالطل مكحول
And no plant on earth complains of sore eyes
No plant on earth but shows some blight or ailing
But its eye is lined with dew as kohl.
Save eyes beholding it made fresh by water.
