أَفيis it right before اللَهِGod أَنthat نُدعىwe are summoned إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle فَزِعتُمyou take fright
أَفي اللَهِ أَن نُدعى إِذا ما فَزِعتُم
وَنُقصَىand we are cast aside إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle تَأمَنونَyou feel safe وَنُحجَبُand we are barred
وَنُقصَى إِذا ما تَأمَنونَ وَنُحجَبُ
Is it right before God that we are summoned when you take fright,
Is it right that we're summoned when you panic
but cast aside when you feel safe, and barred?
And neglected when you feel safe and veiled off
وَيُجعلَand is placed دونيahead of me مَنsomeone who يَوَدُّwishes لَوَif only اَنَّكُمthat you
وَيُجعلَ دوني مَن يَوَدُّ لَوَ اَنَّكُم
ضِرامٌkindling بِكَّفيin the two hands of قابِسٌa fire-kindler يَتَلَهَّبُblazes
ضِرامٌ بِكَّفي قابِسٌ يَتَلَهَّبُ
And that someone is placed ahead of me who wishes you
And someone who wishes you’d always disdain me
were kindling blazing in a fire-kindler's hands?
Is placed before me, spiteful and inflamed
وَأَصبَحَand he has come to لاnot يَدريhe knows أَيَقعُدُwhether he should stay فيكُمُamong you
وَأَصبَحَ لا يَدري أَيَقعُدُ فيكُمُ
عَلىupon حَسَكِthe thorns of الشَحناءِenmity أَمor أَينَwhere يَذهَبُhe goes
عَلى حَسَكِ الشَحناءِ أَم أَينَ يَذهَبُ
And now he does not know whether to stay among you,
And wakes not knowing if he'll sit with you
upon the thorns of enmity, or where to go.
