تُحَذِّرُني كَي أَحذَرَ العامَ خَثعَما

وَقَد عَلِمت أَنّي اِمرؤٌ غَيرُ مُسلَمِ

You warn me to beware the year, tough and ruthless

Though you know I'm a man who won't easily submit

وَما خَثعَمُ إِلاّ لِئامٌ أَذِلَّةٌ

إِلى الذُلِّ وَالإِسحاقِ تَنمى وتَنتَمي

And "ruthless" describes only the cowardly and weak

Who grow accustomed to dishonor and defeat
