وَما قَضَينَكَ لَمّا جِئتَ مُشتاقا
Your dues were lost among the maidens with graceful necks,
Your debts were lost to Ghayda's hostility,
And they did not repay you when you came yearning.
Yet I did not discharge you when you came desirous.
تَحَمَّلواthey packed up and departed وَعُيونُwhile the eyes الحَيِّof the tribe ناظِرَةٌwatching

They departed while the tribe’s eyes looked on,
They bore it while the eyes of the living were watching,
And something checked your gaze that day at the valley bend.
But your gaze on the day of anguish did not bear it.
