Wine—its radiance intervenes
Her radiance transforms
Between inner thoughts and minds.

فَكَأَنَّهاso, as though it فيin كَأسِهاits cup
فَكَأَنَّها في كَأسِها
وَاللَيلُand the night مُنسَحِبُtrailing الذُيولِthe skirts
وَاللَيلُ مُنسَحِبُ الذُيولِ
So it is as though, within its cup,
In her glass it seems
While night trails its skirts,
the night draws in its trains.
ماءُwater الهَجيرِthe noonday heat مُرَقرَقاًshimmering
ماءُ الهَجيرِ مُرَقرَقاً
فيin سُرَّةِthe navel (center) الظِلِّthe shade الظَليلِdeeply shaded
في سُرَّةِ الظِلِّ الظَليلِ
