Welcome to it, a rising evening cloud,
Welcome to him from a fragrance rising
With flickers and pulsations of its lightning,
With inner surges from his lightning and flexings
هَزِجِresounding with البُروقِlightning flashes كَأَنَّهُas though it were مُتَمَطِّقٌsmacking its lips

بِأَراقِمٍ قِلنَ الرِمالَ نَضانِضِ
Resounding with lightning, as though smacking its lips
The stirring of lightning as if it is flickering
With spotted serpents that rested at noon in the sands, their tongues flicking,
With streaks that etched the sands, awakening
حَتّىuntil يَقولَsay الساهِرونَthose awake at night لَوَمضِهِat its flashing

نَضَرَ العِراقُ بِقَطرِ هَذا العارِضِ
Until the wakeful say at its flashing:
Until those awake say about its flashing
“Iraq has grown verdant with the rain of this cloud.”
Iraq flourished with the rain of this cloudburst
