هامِsummits المَكارِمِnoble virtues وَالمَعاليand lofty honors
هامِ المَكارِمِ وَالمَعالي
Their graves were firmly set upon
Their graves are built upon
the summits of noble virtues and lofty honors.
The heights of virtues and glory,
فَكَأَنَّماso it is as though هَرَقَpoured out النَدىgenerosity
فَكَأَنَّما هَرَقَ النَدى
فيهِنَّinto them أَذنِبَةَfull buckets النَوالِbounty
فيهِنَّ أَذنِبَةَ النَوالِ
So it is as though generosity poured
As though the dew has seeped
buckets of bounty into them.
Into them from streams of nobility.
مِنهُمamong them وَراءَbehind التُربِthe soil أَمfirst part of أمثال: counterparts
مِنهُم وَراءَ التُربِ أَم
ثالُremainder of أمثال: counterparts الصَوارِمِkeen-edged swords وَالعَواليand lofty spears
ثالُ الصَوارِمِ وَالعَوالي
Beneath the soil, among them, lie the counterparts
Behind the soil, are they
of keen-edged swords and lofty spears.

أَتُرىdo you see? المَناياthe fates of death كَيفَhow جُلfirst part of جُلْنَ: they roamed
أَتُرى المَنايا كَيفَ جُل
نَfeminine plural ending of جُلْنَ: they roamed بِذَلِكَthrough that الحَيِّthe tribe الحِلالِencamped
نَ بِذَلِكَ الحَيِّ الحِلالِ
Do you see how the fates of death roamed
Do you see how death has wronged
through that encamped tribe?
