ياO طيبَsweetness نَجدٍNajd وَحُسنَand beauty ساكِنِهِits dweller
لَوif only أَنَّهُمthat they أَنجَزواthey fulfilled الَّذيwhat وَعَدواthey promised
O sweetness of Najd and beauty of its dwellers!
O goodness of Najd and beauty of its dwellers
If only they had fulfilled what they promised!
If only they kept the promise they made

They said, when our riding camels had been brought near,
They said, as our mounts were readied
while my heart thirsted for them but reached no water:
My heart yearns for them yet does not return
أَتارِكٌare you leaving? أَرضَناour land فَقُلتُso I said لَهُمto them

“Are you leaving our land?” So I said to them:
Leaving our land, I told them
“My heart went to Najd, and my body to Iraq.”
My heart and body grieve for Najd
