ياO صاحِبَيَّmy two companions تَرَوَّحاdepart at evening, you two بِمَطِيَّتيwith my mount
إِنَّindeed الظِباءَthe gazelles بِذيat Dhu الأَراكِal-Arak سَلَبنَنيhave robbed me
O my two companions, depart at evening with my mount.
O my friends, go for a ride on my she-camel,
Indeed, the gazelles at Dhu al-Arak have robbed me.
For the gazelles have robbed me in Dhi Al-Arak.
سيراgo on, you two فَقَدfor indeed وَقَفَhas halted الطَعينُthe wounded man لِماbecause of what بِهِafflicts him
مُستَسلِماًsurrendering وَنَجاand has escaped الَّذيthe one who لَمdid not يُطعَنِget pierced
Go on, you two, for the wounded man has halted because of what ails him,
Travel on, for the one who did not stab stopped his slander,
surrendering, and the one who was not pierced has escaped.
Having surrendered, and the one who was not stabbed survived.
ماnot سَرَّنيpleased me وَقَناwhile the spears اللِحاظِthe glances تَنوشُنيassail me
أَنّيthat I هُناكَthere قَتيلُone slain غَيرِother than الأَعيُنِthe eyes
It would not please me, while the spears of glances assail me,
It did not please me to drink from the spring of life,
to be slain there by anything but eyes.
That I am a slain one, though not before their eyes.
