ياO ريمَgazelle ذاthis الأَجرَعِthe sandy tract يَرعىgrazes بِهِin it
ثِمارَfruits قَلبيmy heart بَدَلَinstead of الرَطبِfresh herbage
O gazelle of this sandy tract, who grazes there
O Reyma, whose cool water quenches
on the fruits of my heart instead of fresh herbage.
The fruits of my heart instead of dates,
هَناكَmay it do you good شُربُdrinking الدَمعِtears مِنfrom ناظِريmy eye
ياO مُشرِقيyou who make me choke بِالبارِدِon cold water العَذبِsweet
May drinking tears from my eye do you good,
There my eyes drink tears
O you who make me choke on cold, sweet water.
O my morning brightness with the cool sweet water
أَنتَyou عَلىat البُعدِa distance هُموميmy worries إِذاwhen
غِبتَyou are absent وَأَشجانيand my sorrows عَلىin القُربِnearness
You are my worries at a distance, when
You are far, yet my worries are with you
you are absent, and my sorrows when near.
If you are absent, and my sorrows in your presence
لاnot أَتبَعُI follow القَلبَthe heart إِلىto غَيرِكُمanyone other than you
عَينيmy eye لَكُمfor you عَينٌa spy عَلىupon قَلبيmy heart
I do not follow my heart to anyone but you;
I do not follow my heart to another
my eye is your spy upon my heart.
My eyes are for you, a watcher over my heart
