أَبَرَّsurpassed عَلىbeyond الأَنواءِthe rain-bearing stars فَضليmy generosity وَنائِليand my bounty
أَبَرَّ عَلى الأَنواءِ فَضلي وَنائِلي
وَطالَand towered عَلىabove الجَوزاءِal-Jawza (a constellation) قَدريmy rank وَمُحتَديand my lineage
وَطالَ عَلى الجَوزاءِ قَدري وَمُحتَدي
My generosity and bounty surpass the rain-bearing stars;
My grace and attainments surpass the blowing winds
And my rank and lineage tower above al-Jawza.
And my fate and ambition exceed the bright stars
يَديmy hand أَلِفَتhas grown accustomed to بَذلَbestowing النَوالِgifts فَلوso if نَبَتit recoiled
يَدي أَلِفَت بَذلَ النَوالِ فَلو نَبَت
عَنِfrom الجودِgenerosity يَوماًone day قُلتُI would say ماnot هَذِهِthis يَديmy hand
عَنِ الجودِ يَوماً قُلتُ ما هَذِهِ يَدي
My hand is accustomed to bestowing gifts; were it to recoil
My hand grew accustomed to freely giving
From generosity one day, I would say, “This is not my hand.”
If it ceased being generous one day, I would say "This is not my hand"
