It was as though Nizar, with obscurity for his cloak,
As if Nizar, clad in gloom, one dawn
on the morning he foolishly assailed me and raised a clamor,
Became, through ignorance, my foe and drew his sword,

Then, with eyes streaming tears, she threw herself
at the water a thick-necked lion with sinewy forelegs.
Upon the water, arms outstretched, defeated.
