أَرتاحُI rejoice إِنif أَخَذَputs on الصَفصافُthe willow زينَتَهُits adornment
مِنَfrom الرَبيعِspring وَقالَand says الرَكبُthe caravan قَدindeed مُطِراhas received rain
I rejoice if the willow puts on its adornment
I find peace when the willow takes its adornment
from spring, and the caravan says it has indeed received rain,
From the spring, and the caravan says it has rained,

asking, whenever a Yemeni breeze blows,
Asking whenever a southern breeze blows,
the delegation of al-Qarina, 'Have you heard any news?'
"O companions, have you sensed any news?"
إِنif لَمnot أُرِقI shed فيكَfor you ماءَwater الناظِرينَthe two eyes أَسىًin grief

If I do not shed for you the water of my two eyes in grief
If I do not shed for you the water of eyes in sorrow
over the time that has passed, then may they never see.
Over the times that have passed away without a glance back,
