أَخافُكَI fear you إِنَّindeed الخوفَfear مِنكَof you مَحَبَّةٌlove
أَخافُكَ إِنَّ الخوفَ مِنكَ مَحَبَّةٌ
وَماand not كُلُّevery مَخشِيّone feared العِقابِpunishment مُحَبَّباbeloved
وَما كُلُّ مَخشِيّ العِقابِ مُحَبَّبا
I fear you; indeed, fear of you is love.
I fear you, for fear of you is love
Yet not everyone whose punishment is feared is beloved.
Not everyone who fears punishment is beloved
لَئِنif indeed كانَwas خَوفيmy fear مِنof سَطاكَyour might مُبَعَّداًkept far away
لَئِن كانَ خَوفي مِن سَطاكَ مُبَعَّداً
فَياthen, ah رُبَّماperhaps كانَwas الرَجاءُhope مُقَرَّباbrought near
فَيا رُبَّما كانَ الرَجاءُ مُقَرَّبا
If my fear of your might keeps me far away,
If my fear of your wrath takes me far
Then, ah, perhaps hope will bring me near.
Then perhaps hope brings me near
