صَبَرتُI endured عَلىin the face of عَركِgrinding النَوائِبِcalamities فيكُمُfor your sake
وَقَدand indeed بَلَغَhas reached المَجلودُendurance أَوor غَلَبَhas prevailed الصَبرُpatience
I endured the grinding of calamities for your sake,
I have been patient with the hardships caused by you
Though endurance has reached its limit—or patience has prevailed.
And the lashed one has reached his limit or patience has won
وَقَيَّدَنيand bound me مَرُّbitterness الحِفاظِloyalty بِدارِكُمto your dwelling
وَأَطلَقَand freed غَيريothers besides me مِنfrom حَبالِكُمُyour ropes العُذرُan excuse
And the bitterness of loyalty bound me to your dwelling,
The passing of years has shackled me to your home
And an excuse freed others from your ropes.
While excuses have freed others from your ropes
فَماso not كانَwould لَولاكُمwere it not for you يَمُرُّtaste bitter لِيَto me الغِنىwealth
وَيَحلوand taste sweet إِلىto قَلبيmy heart الخَصاصَةُdestitution وَالفَقرُand poverty
For were it not for you, wealth would not taste bitter to me,
Without you, riches would not pass me by
Nor would destitution and poverty taste sweet to my heart.
Nor would frugality and poverty taste sweet to my heart
