أَبُثُّكَI confide to you أَنّيthat I راغِبُturning away عَنfrom مَعاشِرٍcompanions
أَبُثُّكَ أَنّي راغِبُ عَن مَعاشِرٍ
يَضنّونَthey begrudge بِالوُدِّwith affection القَليلِthe little وَأَسمَحُand I give freely
يَضنّونَ بِالوُدِّ القَليلِ وَأَسمَحُ
I confide to you that I turn away from companions
I tell you that I prefer to avoid
who begrudge even a little affection, while I give freely.
People who are stingy with little affection, while I am more generous.
إِذاwhen ماever (emphatic) جَنواthey committed ذَنباًan offense عَليَّagainst me اِحتَقَرتُهُI deemed it trifling
إِذا ما جَنوا ذَنباً عَليَّ اِحتَقَرتُهُ
فَأَعفوso I forgive عَنِconcerning الذَنبِthe offense العَظيمِthe grave وَأصفَحُand I overlook
فَأَعفو عَنِ الذَنبِ العَظيمِ وَأصفَحُ
Whenever they commit an offense against me, I deem it trifling;
If they commit some mistake against me, I think little of it.
so I forgive the grave offense and overlook it.
So I pardon a grave sin and turn a blind eye.
وَيُظهِرُand show ليto me قَومٌsome people بَعاداًestrangement وَجَفوَةًand coldness
وَيُظهِرُ لي قَومٌ بَعاداً وَجَفوَةً
وَماand not عَلِمواthey knew أَنّيthat I بِذَلِكَin that أَفرَحُI rejoice
وَما عَلِموا أَنّي بِذَلِكَ أَفرَحُ
And some people show me estrangement and coldness,
And some people show me hostility and coldness,
yet they did not know that I rejoice in it.
Not knowing that I am made happy by that.
