Glory knows that glory is among my desires,

Even if I have persisted in waywardness and play.

I am indeed of a people who, if gathered for high honor,

Branch out from a prophet or a prophet’s appointed successor.

    تَجِدهُ في مُهَجاتِ الأَنجُمِ الشُهُبِ

    When I aspire, seek the keen edge of my ambitions;

You will find it in the lifeblood of the radiant stars.

And if I resolve, my resolve turns to grit,

Its tracks running bloody in the eyes of calamities.

And many a battlefield where the hands of death clasped

Men’s necks upon spearheads at close quarters.

Death loosed its knee-bands among the battlefield’s battalions,

With blows, then uprooted bodies with keen swords.

The bright swords met within the entrails and embraced,

Along with the Samharī lance, through steel mail and leather armor.

They wept upon the earth tears of those men’s blood,

And so it spoke Arabic from the mouths of blossoms and grass.
