Ah, many a vast desert I have crossed,

While its darkness had fettered the eye,

And my spear's desire was its long-tailed wild bull,

And my steed's aim was its gazelle.

There I kept watch on the heights of a peak,

Whose darkness lay close to the stars,

As though the sky there were a suit of armor,

And the shining stars its rivets.
