They said, “You hoped for bounty from him without cause.”

So I said, “Is any cause stronger than generosity?”

My plea is that he is rain, and I am thirsty.

And if we thirst, we turn to the steady rains.

I knocked at your door, not fearing its refusal.

So if it refuses, I shall neither reproach nor blame.

I set my hopes only on one who would fulfill them.

Nor did I seek any but the source of blessings.

It is no fault of the rainclouds that their showers passed me by.

The blame lies only with provisions and allotted shares.
