لا يَغرُرَنَّكَ سِلمٌ جاءَ يَطلُبُهُ

لا يَغرُرَنَّكَ سِلمٌ جاءَ يَطلُبُهُ

لَم يَخطُبِ السَلمَ إِلّا بَعدَ ما عُقِرا

لَم يَخطُبِ السَلمَ إِلّا بَعدَ ما عُقِرا

Do not let the peace he came to seek deceive you.

He sought peace only after he had been hamstrung.

أَعطى يَداً بَعدَما شَلَّت أَنامِلُها

أَعطى يَداً بَعدَما شَلَّت أَنامِلُها

وَأَسلَمَ النَفسَ لَمّا لَم يَجِد وَزَرا

وَأَسلَمَ النَفسَ لَمّا لَم يَجِد وَزَرا

He offered a hand after its fingers had become paralyzed.

And he surrendered himself when he found no refuge.
