وَأُمّي مَسقِطَ النَجمِ اليَماني
Grant me the fat of your breast and ribs,
Give me the blossoms of your garden and joys
And head toward the setting-place of the Yemeni star.
And, O mother, native land of the gracious star,
فَإِنَّكِfor you ماnot رَعَيتِhave grazed مِنَfrom الفَيافيthe wastelands
فَإِنَّكِ ما رَعَيتِ مِنَ الفَيافي
طَويلاًfor a long time ماindeed (emphatic) رَعَيتِhave grazed مِنَfrom الأَمانيthe hopes
طَويلاً ما رَعَيتِ مِنَ الأَماني
For you have not grazed upon the wastelands;
You have never pastured among meadow-flowers
Long have you grazed upon hopes.
Long have you not savored the hopes
