رَمانيhe shot at me كَالعَدُوِّlike an enemy يُريدُhe wants قَتليkilling me
رَماني كَالعَدُوِّ يُريدُ قَتلي
فَغالَطَنيthen he deceived me وَقالَand he said أَناI الحَبيبُthe beloved
فَغالَطَني وَقالَ أَنا الحَبيبُ
He shot at me like an enemy intent on killing me.
He treated me like an enemy wanting to kill me
Then he deceived me and said, 'I am the beloved.'
He deceived me and said "I am the beloved"
وَأَنكَرَنيand he did not recognize me فَعَرَّفَنيso it made me known إِلَيهِto him
وَأَنكَرَني فَعَرَّفَني إِلَيهِ
لَظىblaze الأَنفاسِthe breaths وَالنَظَرُand the gaze المُريبُsuspicious
لَظى الأَنفاسِ وَالنَظَرُ المُريبُ
And he did not recognize me, but I was made known to him by
And denied me then made me known to him
The blaze of breaths and the suspicious gaze.
With fiery breath and suspicious gaze
وَقالواand they said لِمwhy أَطَعتَyou obeyed وَكَيفَand how أَعصيI disobey
وَقالوا لِم أَطَعتَ وَكَيفَ أَعصي
أَميراًa prince مِنamong رَعِيَّتِهِhis subjects القُلوبُthe hearts
أَميراً مِن رَعِيَّتِهِ القُلوبُ
And they said, 'Why did you obey?' How could I disobey
And they said "Why did you obey and how could you disobey
A prince with hearts among his subjects?
A commander whom hearts are his subjects"
