وَعَينٌand an eye عَوانٌseasoned بِالدُموعِwith tears وَغَيرُهاand others besides them
وَعَينٌ عَوانٌ بِالدُموعِ وَغَيرُها
مِنَamong الدَمعِthe tears يَعرَوريrides over جَوانِبَهاits sides بِكرُvirgin
مِنَ الدَمعِ يَعرَوري جَوانِبَها بِكرُ
And an eye seasoned with tears, while others
Among the tears that ride its sides are virgin.
تَمَطَّتstretched onward بِيَwith me العُشرونَthe twenty years حَتّىuntil رَمَينَthey flung بيme
تَمَطَّت بِيَ العُشرونَ حَتّى رَمَينَ بي
إِلىto غايَةٍa limit مِنfrom دونِهاshort of it يُقطَعُis cut off العُمرُlife
إِلى غايَةٍ مِن دونِها يُقطَعُ العُمرُ
The twenty years stretched onward with me until they flung me
To a limit short of which life is cut off.
