وَمَنسوبَةٍand a pedigreed mare مِنfrom among بَناتِthe daughters of الوَجيهِal-Wajih
وَمَنسوبَةٍ مِن بَناتِ الوَجيهِ
تَحسَبُyou would consider غُرَّتَهاher white forehead blaze بُرقُعاa face veil
تَحسَبُ غُرَّتَها بُرقُعا
And a pedigreed mare, one of al-Wajih’s daughters,
A girl of a noble lineage, of the daughters of dignitaries
you would take her white blaze for a face veil;
You would think her cheek was embroidered
مُكَرَّمَةِhonored الخَدِّthe cheek تَحتَbeneath الطِرافِthe leather tent
مُكَرَّمَةِ الخَدِّ تَحتَ الطِرافِ
يَلطِمُslaps لاطِمُهاthe one who slaps her أَربَعاfour times
يَلطِمُ لاطِمُها أَربَعا
her cheek held in honor beneath the leather tent,
Honored of cheek beneath the eyelids
whoever slaps her delivers four slaps.
Her slanderer slanders her fourfold
