وَقائِلٍand one who says لِيَto me هَذاthis الطَودُthe mountain مُرتَحِلٌdeparting
وَهَلand can يَخِفُّbe light عَلىupon الأَيّامِthe days مَحمَلُهُbearing him
And someone says to me, “This mountain is departing.”
And one tells me, “This mountain is departing.”
But can the days bear his weight lightly?
And can the days bear his weight with ease?
لاmay not يُبعِدِsend far away اللَهُGod مَنthe one who غالَتravaged رَكائِبُهُhis riding camels
صَبريmy patience وَقَلقَلَand stirred مِنof دَمعيmy tears تَقَلقُلُهُhis moving away
May God not cast him far away—the one whose mounts carried off
May God not send far away the one whose riding camels have ravaged
my patience, and whose moving on shook tears loose from me.
my patience, and whose departure has stirred my tears.
يُطَيِّبُcomforts النَفسَthe soul أَنَّthat النَفسَthe soul تَتبَعُهُfollows him
وَكَيفَand how يَرحَلُdepart مَنthe one who فيin القَلبِthe heart مَنزِلُهُhis dwelling
It soothes the soul to know that the soul will follow him;
It comforts the soul that the soul follows him.
yet how can one depart whose dwelling is in the heart?
And how can he depart whose dwelling is in the heart?
