O dwelling, never did the she-camels yearn for you

but your grounds awakened longing and were themselves filled with longing.

with urging shouts for drink and whips for fodder.

all lands were Muhajjar and Aqiq.

The riding camels choked on their tears, as though

the swift she-camels' yearning cries there were sobs.

so it caws to bring separation to completion.

    Thus eyes shared that mote,

and throats divided that choking thorn.

so I lowered my gaze, though the gazelles delight the eye.

I would have found honor's taste strange when I tasted it.

a beloved ever ceased resisting a lover.

while the earth was flashes of the mirage's gleam.

with the mirage galloping in the waste—were a pampered camel-stallion.

a branch leafed with the stars' eyes.

lights were spittle on the lip of dense darkness.

Night, its girdle loosened, stands stripped of daylight,

naked, with dawn's necklace fastened firmly upon it.
