سَأَبذُلُI shall sacrifice دونَin defense of العِزِّhonor أَكرَمَthe noblest مُهجَةٍlifeblood
إِذاwhen قامَتِrises الحَربُwar العَوانُrenewed عَلىon رِجلِa leg
I shall sacrifice the noblest lifeblood in defense of honor,
I will sacrifice the most precious life
when renewed war rises to its feet.
When war sets upon a man
وَماand not ذاكَthat أَنَّbecause النَفسَthe soul غَيرُnot نَفيسَةٍprecious

And that is not because the soul is not precious,
It is not that the soul is invaluable
but I have found cowardice a kind of miserliness.
But I saw cowardice as a form of stinginess
وَماnor المُكرِهونَthose who force السَمهَرِيَّةَthe stout spears فيinto الطُلىthe necks
بِأَشجَعَany braver مِمَّنthan one who يَكرَهُdislikes المالَwealth فيin البَذلِgiving
Nor are those who drive stout spears into necks
And those who force the Samharis for ransoms
any braver than one who disdains wealth in giving.
Are not braver than those who hate to spend money
