أَحبابُنا مُذ بانوا

لِنَومِنا أَبانوا
Since our beloveds departed,
Our friends when they appeared
they have banished our sleep.
Made our sleep troubles clear

So after them, they have not dried—
After them our eyelids

Still with tears wet appear

I hid my love but does
there be concealment with weeping?
Weeping conceal despair?

Hind quarters quivering
the sand dunes envy her.
The dunes they make compare

Breasts like pomegranates

My heart with sadness filled
and the drunken one the winner.
Pour me then this cup again
