Is it fitting to silence the sound of the

lute in our midst, while you have wine?

So come to us, O Abu al-Mahasin; we are

like stars, and you are the drinkers' full moon.

And bring us wine; we are people

who cannot bear to refrain from drinking wine.

And be generous, as you are known to be, and cast

your apologies aside, for no excuse will be accepted.

And if the wine is late in reaching us,

then poetry will forbid and command you.
