I have an evening draught of love and a morning draught.
I have a longing for love at dawn and dusk,
Within my heart, love goes forth each morning and returns each evening.
And in my heart, love comes and goes.
مَنwhoever رَآنيsaw me مُلقىًcast down بِظَهرِon top of فِراشيmy bed

Whoever saw me lying atop my bed
Whoever saw me lying on my back,

Said this is the one who's been tossed aside.

O my people, what anguish of love I endure!
Oh my people, what agony have I endured!
So lament me, weep over me, and wail.
Mourn for me, weep for me, and wail!
لِيَI have روحٌa soul بِغَيرِwithout جِسمٍa body وَجِسمٌand a body
يُقسِمُswear العائِدونَvisitors to the sick ماnot فيهِin it روحُa soul
I have a soul without a body, and a body
I have a soul without a body, and a body,
that my visitors swear has no soul within.
Those returning say it has no soul.
مَنwho مُجيريmy protector مِنَfrom الحَبيبِthe beloved الَّذيwho فيon account of
هِhim اِعتَرانيhas overtaken me الشَقاءُmisery وَالتَبريحُand torment

Who will shield me from the beloved, because of
Who will protect me from the beloved who

فَقَبيحُfor the ugliness الغَرامِof passion عِنديto me جَميلٌbeautiful
وَجَميلُand the beauty العَزاءِof consolation عِنديto me قَبيحُugly
For the ugliness of passion is beautiful to me,
In my view, the shame of passion is beautiful,
and the beauty of consolation is ugly to me.
And the beauty of consolation is ugly.
لَمnot (past tense) يَبُحspeak openly بِالهَوىof love لِسانيmy tongue وَلَكِنand yet

My tongue has not spoken of love, and yet
My tongue hasn't confessed my love openly, but
my eye's tears speak of what I conceal.
The tears of my eyes reveal what I conceal.
