Bring it! Pour me wine like gold in a ruby cup,
Give me the wine in ruby like gold,
yellow, with pearls of foam floating on it.
Yellow with pearls of love floating upon it.

The sun of wine, whenever water mingles with it,
The sun of wine when water mixes with it,
through blending, adorns the cup's sky with shooting stars.
With blending, adorns the sky of the cup with stars.

And the finest refreshment the cupbearer offers with his palm
The best the cupbearer ever perfumed in his cup
in his cup is a cloud's son with the grape's daughter.
Was the son of clouds with the daughter of grapes.

And the oud declaims, while we are witnesses, and the sound
The lute woos while we are the witnesses and the sound
of the reed flute resounds in a companion's guise.
Of the reed pipe passionately dressed like a lover.

Until, in rapture, we see the drinker of tawny wine
Until we see the drinker of ruby wine out of rapture
as though he were the lord of al-Shahba in Aleppo.
As though he were the owner of Pleiades in Aleppo.

From the palm of a dark-eyed Turk, whose sidelong glances
From the hand of a charming Turkish cupbearer his glances
are keener than brown spears and gleaming-white swords;
Are smoother than pomegranate blossom and bending branches.

Sweet of pillow, shaking the cushions, with
for his body's curves, in earnest and in play.
Yearning of robes earnestly and playfully.

When, smiling, he passes round the dark-red wine,
When he turns the wine-skin smiling,
he captivates armored warriors, men of war, though he is a boy.
He makes the immature to be men of war while he is a boy.

His glances shoot from the bow of his eyebrow
arrows that leave people in war and in ruin.
Arrows with which people fight in war and in battle.

إِلّا اِحتَبا بِاِبتِسامِ الفَضلِ وَالأَدَبِ
And wine never enters a generous man's mouth
And the wine never entered in my generous brother
without his girding himself with the smile of virtue and courtesy.
Except it was influenced by the smile of excellence and courtesy.

So he is generous with whatever his fingertips hold,
So he is generous with what his fingers contain,
his goodwill alive among his drinking companions, his anger dead.
Alive with pleasure among the companions, dead in anger.
