الشَوقُlonging أَذكىkindled النارَthe fire فيin أَحشائيmy entrails
وأَسالَand made flow مِنfrom عَينَيَّmy two eyes عَينَيtwo springs of ماءِwater
Longing kindled fire in my entrails
And made two springs of water flow from my eyes.
أعشارُtenths; portions قَلبيmy heart قُطِّعَتwere cut to pieces فَتَقَطَّعَتthen fell apart
بِمُدىby the knives of الأَعاديthe enemies يَومَon the day of عاشوراءِAshura
The tenths of my heart were cut to pieces, then fell apart
By the enemies' knives on the day of Ashura.
ضَحِكَlaughed الأَعاديthe enemies مِنat تَشَتُّتِthe scattering of شَملِناour company
خجلَتيmy shame مِنat ضحكِهِمtheir laughter وَبُكائيand my weeping
The enemies laughed at our scattered company.
Oh, my shame at their laughter and my weeping!
