Why do I strive while fortune stands still?
Why do you stir, while luck sits still,
I have not held back in pursuit, yet
You gained naught from your quest, yet
أَرىI see نَذلاًa scoundrel تُقدِّمُهُadvance him المَساويthe faults

عَلى حُرٍّ تُؤَخِّرُهُ المَحاسِن
I see a scoundrel whose faults advance him
I see you honor the baseborn man,
above a noble man whose virtues hold him back.
Above the free whom you denigrate in beauty
