فَمِن صَدِّهِ دَمعي لَهُ لَونُ عَندَمِ
My life for a gazelle who had no scruples about shedding my blood.
With myself a gazelle not shy of my blood
For his rejection gives my tears the color of red dye.
So my tears for blocking him take on the hue of anemones
نَضىhe unsheathed البيضَthe gleaming swords عَنfrom أَجفانِهِhis eyelids السودِthe dark ones رانِياًgazing

وَفَوَّقَ قَوسَ الحاجِبَينِ بِأَسهُمِ
He unsheathed gleaming swords from his dark eyelids as he gazed,
He passed by the white of his eyelids flowing
And fitted the bow of his brows with arrows.
And strung the bow of the eyebrows with arrows

فَواعَجَبا لِلظَبيِ يَسطو بِضَيغَمِ
A gazelle with the sun's radiant face—
A gazelle with the face of a gazelle shining
So, what a marvel: an antelope pouncing upon a lion!
So wondrous is the oryx exulting with butting
وَواand oh! رَحمَتاpity! لِلخَصرِfor the waist مِنbecause of ثِقلِthe weight of رِدفِهِhis haunches

And oh, pity his waist beneath the weight of his haunches,
Oh pity for the waist from the weight of his rump
When he sways his figure like a sturdy, straightened lance.
When the dappled one sways straightening his curve
وَواand oh! ظَمَئيmy thirst لِلراحِfor wine مِنfrom بَردِthe coolness of ريقِهِhis saliva

And oh, my thirst for wine from his cool saliva,
Oh my thirst for the saliva from the cool of his mouth
To kiss the pearls of his mouth through its ring.
To kiss the pearl of the lips from the seal of the mouth

He appeared to me an idol, burning me with his rejection,
He appeared before me an idol scorching with his distance
And for idol-worshippers there is the fire of Hell.
And for the idolaters, the fire of hell
