منعوهُthey denied him أَحبَّdearest شيءٍthing لديهto him
منعوهُ أَحبَّ شيءٍ لديه
منthan جميعِall الورىhumankind ومنand than والديهhis parents
من جميعِ الورى ومن والديه
They denied him the thing dearest to him,
They forbade him the thing he loved most
dearer than all humankind and his parents.
From all creation and from his parents
منعوهُthey denied him غذءَهhis nourishment وهوthough it قدalready كاfirst part of 'was'
منعوهُ غذءَه وهو قد كا
نَcompletion of 'was' مباحاًpermitted لهto him وبينand between يديهhis two hands
نَ مباحاً له وبين يديه
They denied him his nourishment, though it had been
They forbade his food though it was
permitted to him and within his reach.
Permissible to him, laid out before him
عجباًhow astonishing منهof him ذاthis علىdespite صغرِyouth السنage
عجباً منه ذا على صغرِ السن
هويْhe fell in love فاهتدىand so found its way الفراقُseparation إليهto him
هويْ فاهتدى الفراقُ إليه
How astonishing that he, despite his tender age,
Strange that one so young
fell in love, and separation found its way to him!
Should be guided, separation led him to it
