تثنى بحر كحر الفراق

وتبدو ببرد كبرد اللقاء

وتبدو ببرد كبرد اللقاء

She sways with heat like the heat of parting,

The sea sways like the sea of parting

And appears with coolness like the coolness of meeting.

And appears cold like the coldness of meeting

لها حبب ما طفا في الانا

لها حبب ما طفا في الانا

ء حسبت النجوم طفت في الاناء

ء حسبت النجوم طفت في الاناء

She has bubbles: whenever they float in the vessel,

It has loves that did not extinguish in the self

You think the stars have floated in the vessel.

I thought the stars extinguished in the bowl

فتلك التي ما عراها النديم

فتلك التي ما عراها النديم

فعري عن لبس ثوب البقاء

فعري عن لبس ثوب البقاء

So she is the one no drinking companion has approached

That which the boon companion did not bare

And thereby been stripped of the robe of life.

Bare yourself of wearing the garment of eternity
