ياO راميَshooter of الغَرَضينthe two targets فيat
يا راميَ الغَرَضين في
وقتٍone time فؤاديَmy heart والغرَضْand the target
وقتٍ فؤاديَ والغرَضْ
O you who strike both targets at
O you who aim at two hearts at one time
once—my heart and the target!
My heart and another's heart
إنif كانwas رَمْيُكَyour shot ذاكthat عنwith
إن كان رَمْيُكَ ذاك عن
عمدٍdeliberate intent فَرَمْيُكthen your shot ذاthis عَرَضْchance
عمدٍ فَرَمْيُك ذا عَرَضْ
If that shot of yours was
If that aim of yours was intentional
intentional, then this shot of yours is accidental.
Then your aim was with evil intent
أرَمَيْتَهُdid you shoot at it? عنfrom قَوسِa bow of أجbeginning of 'eyelids'
أرَمَيْتَهُ عن قَوسِ أج
فانٍcompletion of 'eyelids' بسهمٍwith an arrow منof مَرَضlanguor; sickness
فانٍ بسهمٍ من مَرَض
Did you shoot at it from a bow of eye-
You aimed it from a bow of injustice
lids, with an arrow of languor?
With an arrow of sickness
إِنِّيindeed I أُعيذُكَI seek protection for you أنlest تُحbeginning of 'you make it waste away'
إِنِّي أُعيذُكَ أن تُح
رِّضهcompletion of 'you make it waste away' فتتركنيso you leave me حَرَضwasted away
رِّضه فتتركني حَرَض
Indeed, I seek protection for you, lest you
I implore you not to incite it
make it waste away and leave me wasted.
And then leave me provoked
إِنif كنتَyou are تبغيseeking الأجرthe reward ليbeginning of 'is not'
إِن كنتَ تبغي الأجر لي
سcompletion of 'is not' الأجرُthe reward عنfor قتليkilling me عِوَضcompensation
س الأجرُ عن قتلي عِوَض
If you seek reward, no
If you seek reward, reward is not
reward can compensate for killing me.
