أياO ساقيَcupbearer الخمرِthe wine لاdo not تُنْسنَاforget us
أيا ساقيَ الخمرِ لا تُنْسنَا
وياand O ربةَmistress العودِthe lute حُثِّيurge on الغناthe singing
ويا ربةَ العودِ حُثِّي الغنا
O cupbearer of wine, do not forget us.
O bearer of wine, do not forget us
And O mistress of the lute, quicken the song.
And o mistress of the lute, incite song
فقدfor indeed نشرhas spread الدَّجْنُthe overcast gloom بينbetween السماءِthe sky
فقد نشر الدَّجْنُ بين السماءِ
والأرضِand the earth مطرفَهُits bordered cloak الأدْكَناdark-colored
والأرضِ مطرفَهُ الأدْكَنا
For the overcast gloom has spread between the sky
For the darkness has spread its wings
And the earth its dusky cloak.
Between the sky and the gloomiest earth
