No good lies in a dream-phantom save a yearning lover’s phantom,
There is no good in ghosts except the ghost of longing
Struggling between disturbance and disquiet.
A struggler between annoyance and worry

It journeyed by night to Ishaq’s monastery, and often
He went to the monastery of Isaac, maybe
Fulfilled its desire in Ishaq’s monastery.
He spent his night in the monastery of Isaac
كمmany a ليلةٍnight ليَof mine بالناعورةِat al-Na‘ura انكشفتwere laid bare
فيهاduring it سرائرُsecrets أحشاءٍinmost hearts وآماقand inner eye-corners
On many a night of mine at al-Na‘ura were laid bare
How many nights were unveiled to me in Naur
The secrets of hearts and the corners of eyes.
In which the secrets of intestines and depths were exposed
زارvisited الخيالُthe dream-phantom فأنباناand then informed us بِزَوْرَتِهِof its visit
وهناًlate at night غناءthe singing of وشاحاتٍsash-marked birds وأطواقand neck-rings (collared birds)
The dream-phantom visited, and its visit was announced to us
Imagination visited so it spoke to us with its lies
Late at night by the song of sash-marked and ring-necked birds.
And here singing, drinks, and necklaces
