فماfor ... not لهfor him منany طاقةٍcapacity بالقريضْfor verse
Leave off satirizing Ibrahim; leave off, you loathsome one!
Leave the satire of Ibrahim leave, O abhorrent one
For he has no capacity for verse.
For he has no endurance for poetry
لمdid not أرَI see مهجوراًforsaken مريضاًailing غداbecame

I have never seen a forsaken, ailing man become
I have not seen a satirized patient become well the next day
One seeking healing through sickly invective—except him.
Except for him who heals a patient with estrangement
ظنَّhe thought المدىthe expanse يعنوwould yield وماand ... not إِنat all (emphatic) درىhe knew
أَنthat المدىthe expanse شيءٌsomething طويلٌlong عريضbroad
He thought the expanse would yield, yet did not know
He thought the road was compassionate though he did not know
That the expanse is something long and broad.
That the road is a lengthy broad thing
وإِنَّand indeed إبراهيمIbrahim فَرُّوجةٌa young hen
وماand ... not أَتىhas come بعدُyet لهاfor her أَنْto تَبيضlay eggs
And indeed, Ibrahim is a young hen,
And indeed Ibrahim is an entertainer
And her time to lay eggs has not yet come.
Who has not come up with anything original yet
