اصفرارُ الوجوهِ عند التلاقي

Indeed, among the signs of lovers are

It is a sign of lovers

Faces turning yellow when they meet,

When faces turn pale upon meeting

وانقطاعٌ يكونُ من غير عيٍّ

وانقطاعٌ يكونُ من غير عيٍّ

وَوَلوعٌ بالصمتِ والإطراق

وَوَلوعٌ بالصمتِ والإطراق

And speech faltering without any impediment,

And there is disconnect though nothing is wrong

And a fondness for silence and downcast eyes.

And ache in silence and lowering of gaze

وقف الشوق بي فلما تبدَّى

عُرفَت فيه رغبةُ المشتاق

عُرفَت فيه رغبةُ المشتاق

Longing brought me to a halt; when it showed itself,

When longing paused in me and then appeared

The yearning lover's desire was recognized in it.

It revealed in it the yearning of the ardent lover

فتماسكتُ بعد ما أن أجلتُ ال

رأي بين الوقوف والانطلاق

So I steadied myself after weighing the

You did not greet, so glances offered greetings,

You did not greet so fleeting moments greeted

Telling of the intensity of longing.

Informing of intensity of yearning

وإذا ما السلامُ ضنَّت به الأل

سنُ كان السلامُ بالأحداق

سنُ كان السلامُ بالأحداق

And when a greeting is withheld by the
