أحمَدُI praise اللهَGod قدindeed ألاحَتْhave gleamed بُروقٌflashes of lightning
أحمَدُ اللهَ قد ألاحَتْ بُروقٌ
مِنكَfrom you بالودّwith affection لاnot تَزالُcease to be مَلِيحهْlovely
مِنكَ بالودّ لا تَزالُ مَلِيحهْ
I praise God: flashes of lightning have gleamed
Thank God, bright moments have shone
From you with affection, ever lovely.
From you with affection, ever so lovely.
حُسنُbeauty of قولٍspeech وسُوءُand badness of فعلٍaction كماjust as سمُّىinvoked God's name
حُسنُ قولٍ وسُوءُ فعلٍ كما سمُّى
المُسُمّيthe one invoking God's name فيat وقتِthe time of ذَبْحِslaughtering الذَّبِيحَهْthe animal being slaughtered
المُسُمّي في وقتِ ذَبْحِ الذَّبِيحَهْ
Fine words and foul deeds—just as God's name is invoked
Good words and bad deeds, as was named
By the one invoking it while slaughtering the animal.
