وحَشاً حَشْوُها جوىً ورسيسُ
I have a heart held captive by love for you,
My heart is captive to your love,
And a breast filled with love's anguish and lingering passion.
Its passionate longing and fervor like blazing fire.

قد أردتُ الصدودَ عنكَ ولكنْ

دبَّ بالوصلِ بيننا إِبليسُ
I had wished to turn away from you, but
I wanted to turn away from you, but
Iblis crept between us, bringing us together.
The devil intervened to bind us together.

إِن أَكنْ في الهوى حديداً فألحا

ظُكُ في فِعْلهِنَّ مِغْناطيسُ
If I am iron in love, then your glances
If my love for you is like steel,
Are, in their effect, a magnet.
Your charm has a magnetic pull.

O you leaving the wedding in the morning, may you be greeted
O wanderer, the wedding has passed,
By good fortunes, with no misfortunes to follow them.
After it is only misfortune and woe.

بعروسٍof a bride تُجْلَىis unveiled عليهاbefore her عروسُa bride
بعروسٍ تُجْلَى عليها عروسُ
We have never heard, by God, in all we have heard,
By God, of all we have heard,
Of a bride before whom another bride is unveiled.
Never a bride with another bride's favor.
