O father, lavish in boundless bounty,
O you, lavish in boundless generosity,
swift to generosity, never slow—

I shield you with my soul, you who lay hold

of glory by the surest means.

Are you not that noble champion to whom people cry for aid,
Are you not the young man sought for help, who,
who, when the people suffer drought, never runs dry?
when people suffer drought, suffers none?

Why, then, did your cupbearer err just now—or
Why, then, did your cupbearer err now—or
did he do it deliberately, without erring?
do that deliberately, without error—

The mouth of a little flask, even if it poured forth
and send a flask that, if poured
for me into my palm, would not let fall a drop.
here into my palm, would not spill a drop?

It seems he mistook me for a suckling infant,
Did he perhaps imagine me a suckling infant,
and so dosed me with wine through a nasal dropper.
and so serve me wine in a nasal dropper?

Then rebuke an oppressor for his injustice,
So rebuke Jāʾiz for his injustice,
and cast down—may I be your ransom—whoever brings others low.
and be just—may I be your ransom, O just one!
