Exalted is God, creator of everything

by His power, and fashioner of every soul.

Indeed, the whole earth now has

its stars moving with good fortune, not misfortune.

Have you not seen how its hills have donned

such a garb of thickly layered snow—

    garments that keep melting softly

when hands reach out to touch them?

As though the cloud, through what it shed from itself

across its expanses, were tufts of cotton.

So take care not to miss an overcast day,

for an overcast day equals a wedding day.

And offer the drinkers a virgin wine, untouched

by a hand's fingertips, nor deflowered by touch.

As though the boy's hand, when it rose

toward me with its cup, were stained with yellow wars dye.

If your face is before my eyes,

O my soul's desire, what could I want from the sun?
